Basic search
The basic search on the site’s homepage searches “article titles” only. The user can use combinations of words in the search bar. For example, if the user was interested in information on capsid and chemical control the user could enter "capsid chemical control" in the search bar (please note the word "and" is not used). Since the search is not case sensenitive so there is no need to use capital letters. If the user can not find much information on their topic using the basic search function, we would recommend using the advance search function doing a key word search under the "Abstract" field.
Advance search
If the user requires a more in-depth search please select the “advance search” function. The advance search will allow the user to search any of the databases entry fields. For example, if interested in photographs (photo) the user should select “photo” from the “Literature type” on the drop-down box and select “Advance search” to reveal all photographs within the database. The rest of the fields are self explanatory with exception of the “authors” field. Here the user can just type the first few letters of the authors last name and the database will automatically provide the user with a list of authors that match the users letters. The more letters of the last name entered the more effective the databases will be. Once search articles are displayed the user can click on any of the references to expand that particular reference for more information. If the user would like to contact any of the authors just click on his/her name. At times the user may also notice a small paper icon at the end of various references. This means that the article may be downloaded once selecting the paper icon. If the user would like to browse the entire contents of the database simple leave the basic search bar empty and select search.
Literature types
The database holds many literuature types including:
Conference proceedings
Flyers/Newsletters
Journal publications
Newspapers & newspaper clippings
Photographs
Posters
Presentations
Projects
Reports
Thesis
Workshop proceedings
All the literature types can be search independently using the "Advanced Search" function.
